Situation:
Rule 10.3.4.E
Only a few seconds remain in the second quarter.
Team A is advancing the ball from backcourt to frontcourt.
A1 is driving toward his/her basket and is about to dunk
the ball when the horn sounds to end the first half. Shortly
after the horn sounds, A1 dunks the ball and hangs on to
the rim.

Situation:
Case Book 5.2.1 E
During the pregame period, the visiting theam prperly used the
est goal and the hme team the west goal. The officials, by mistake,
allow the jumpers to face the wrong direction to start the game.
A1 controls the tap by tapping the ball back to A2. A2, realizing
the he/she had warmed up at the basket behind A1, dribbles to that
basket and scores an uncontested basket.

A1
scores a basket. After the ball goes through the net, B1 grabs it
and makes a move toward the end line as though preparing the make
a throw-in. However, B1 never legally steps out of bounds, both feet
remain inbounds. B1 immediately passes the ball up the court to a
fast-breaking theammate, who scores a basket.

Situation:

The score it sied at the end of regulation
time. During the overtime period, the official scorer informs the
feferee that Team A had an additional point in the fourth quarter
that was not counted. In (a), the referee reviews the scorebook
and recognizes where a point was not properly credited to Team
A; or (b) the referee does not have definite knowledge that
a point was not credited to Team A.

Ruling: Play of the Week - 11/06/2007
Situation:
Rule 10.3.4.E
A1 is assessed a technical foul for dunking a dead ball. The foul
is also charged indirectly to the head coach since A1 is considered
bench personnel. The third quarter begins with Team B being awarded
two free throws and the ball at the division line. The alternating-possession
arrow is not affected and remains unchanged.

Score the basket for Team A. The officials should stop the game
and emphasize to both teams the proper directiion. Them mistake
is an official's error by allowing A1 and B1 to face the wrong
direction; not a correctable error.

Yes. The described action is illegal. It is unsporting
for a guard to take a position behind a post player, or to take a
position facing an oponent, or to take a position with his/her
back to the ball and facing the opponent and then in either case,
wave or hold the hands in front of the opponent's eyes so that
the opponent cannot see. Holding or waving hands near the eye for
the ostensible purpose of obstructing an opponent's vision unsporting.

Case Book 10.4.1.E
The official shall withhold blowing the whistle until A1 has either
made or missed the shot. The official shall then sound the whistle
and assess the Team B head coach with a technical foul. If the
official judges the act to be flagrant, the coach shall be ejected
and shall leave the vicinity of the playing area and have no further
contact (direct or indirect) with the team. If A's coach was the
offender, the whistle shall be sounded immediately when the unsporting
act occurs.
