Kraft's Football Play of the Week Play
of the Week - 10/3/2005
2nd and
10 for A from B's 30 yard line. A1 completes a forward pass
to A2 at B's 20 yard line. A2 runs to B's 4 and fumbles the
ball into B's end zone. As B1 is trying to recover the ball
he accidentally steps on the side line in his end zone. After
stepping on the sideline B1 falls on the ball in his own end
zone. You make the call.
Ruling:
Rule 6-1 States that no player of A or K shall go out of bounds
and return during the down unless blocked out of bounds by
an opponent. A or K can not even step out accidentally. Rule
6-2 States that no player shall intentionally go out of bounds
and return. Since B1 accidentally stepped on the sideline,
this is not a foul for illegal participation. When B1 recovers
the fumble it is a touchback. 1st and ten for B from the 20
yard line.
Play
of the Week - 9/26/2005
20 seconds
remaining in the ball game with the clock running. A has no
time outs remaining. 3rd and 10 for A from B's 20 yard line.
The ball is snapped to A10 who decides to run around the right
end. B 50 is about to tackle A10 at the 15 yard line. A10
knows he will not make the first down and can't get out of
bounds. A10 is at the 15 yard line throws the ball out of
bounds, crossing the sideline at B's17, with 5 seconds left
on the clock. Has A fouled, if so what is the ruling and the
clock status?
Ruling:
No foul. A can throw a backwards pass at any time. It will
be A's ball 4th and 7 from B's 17 yard line. The clock will
start on the snap.
Play
of the Week - 9/19/2005
4th and
9 at the Team K's 35 yard line. Team K is in a scrimmage kick
formation with eight linemen (only four are numbered 50-79)
and three backs. K80 is the right end with K21 positioned
as the right tackle. Prior to the snap, K80 shifts and becomes
a back with K21 now the right end. The ball is snapped to
the kicker K77. Right end K21 goes down field and catches
a forward pass thrown by K77 at K's 40 yard line and is tackles
there. You make the call.
Ruling:
Rule 7-2-5 exception page 54 in the rule book states that
a player in the game under this exception must assume an initial
position on his line of scrimmage between the ends and he
remains an ineligible forward pass receiver during that down.
This play we have the numbering exception in place. Once number
K80 covers K21, K21 becomes ineligible during that down. K21
catches a forward pass beyond the line of scrimmage we now
have offensive pass interference. 15 yard penalty previous
spot and a loss of down. 1st and 10 for R from K's 20 yard
line. If K21 does not touch the pass but goes down field all
we have is an ineligible receiver down field. That would be
a 5 yard penalty previous spot but no loss of down.
Play
of the Week - 9/12/2005
K has a
4th and 16 situation at its own 30. K's punt is blocked. While
the ball is loose after the block, R9 kicks the ball while
on the ground at K's 15. R10 recovers the ball and is tackled
at K's 10. What are the choices?
Ruling: Illegal
kick by R. This occurred during a legal kick which makes this
a loose ball play for the purpose of penalty enforcement.
The basic spot for a loose ball play is the previous spot.
PSK does not apply because the kick did not go beyond the
ENZ, and the foul did not occur beyond the ENZ. If K accepts
the penalty (or better said, after K accepts the penalty),
K will have a 4th and 1 situation at its own 45.
Play
of the Week - 8/29/2005
2nd down and 12 for A from the 50 yard line. Team A is in
shotgun formation. The ball is snapped to Quarterback A1.
As End A4 goes out for a pass he is tackled by linebacker
B2 at B's 47 yard line. Quarterback A1 can't find any one
to throw the ball to. Quarterback A1 starts to run, but fumbles
the ball at his own 40 yard line. The ball hits the ground
and bounces right back into his hands. A1 is tackled at his
own 45 yard line. You make the call.
Ruling: This is a loose ball play. The penalty will
be marked off from the previous spot, the 50 yard line. It
will be A's ball 2nd and 2 from B's 40 yard line./font
